Roxanne Heston (Loughery) (1978)

Freddy was a certified welder working for his uncle’s construction company, M.A. Heston,Inc. He died on March 19, 1992 as a result of an explosion at Blacksville # 1 mine in Blacksville (Monongalia County) WV. He and Bobby Moran, a co-worker from Grafton, WV, were welding on top of the mine. Unknown to them a valve had been turned shutting off the ventilation and causing a build up of methane gas. Freddy, Bobby Moran, Donnie Glaspell (an EFHS graduate) and Rod Baird (a Consol employee) died in the explosion. Freddy’s cousin, Jimmy Heston (also an EFHS alumni) was seriously injured, but survived the explosion. Freddy was unmarried and had no children. He is still sadly missed by his parents, me (sister) and brothers, Tom (Class of ‘76), David (Class of ‘80), remaining family and friends. I remember him as my protector, for his shy smile and his gentle, teasing nature.
